Classification of cords

The first classification is the division of cords into types depending on temperature conditions, manufacturing technology, and application environment.

In connection with this classification, the following are distinguished:

-Acid-alkali resistant (TMKSH) cord. This type is mainly used in acidic environments, with the exception of carbonic and nitric acids;
-Frost-resistant cord. This type is used in air, nitrogen, and inert gas at temperatures from -450С to +500С;
-Oil and gasoline resistant (MBS) cord. The working environment for this type of cord is oil and gasoline;
-Heat-resistant cord. This type is designed for gas environments and is used at temperatures from -300C to +1400C; It can be used in air, nitrogen, water vapor, and inert gas.
-Food-grade cord. This type of cord is the most popular and is used more often than others. It works in food and water environments.
-Unified cord. This type of cord works in the same environments as TMKSH, frost-resistant and oil- and gasoline-resistant cords, as well as with diesel oils and diesel fuel at temperatures from -500C to +500C.

The second classification is the division of cords into types depending on the type of cross-section. In connection with this classification, the following are distinguished:

1. Round cross-section cord.
2. Square cross-section cord.
3. Trapezoidal cross-section cord

Rubber cords can also differ in hardness:

Increased hardness (P);
Medium hardness (S);
Low hardness (M).

Depending on the type, cords can also have different degrees of hardness.

Thus, acid-alkali-resistant, heat-resistant, and frost-resistant cords can be: high hardness (65-80 units), medium hardness (55-70 units), low hardness (40-55 units). Oil and petrol resistant cords can be: P (65-85 units), C (50-70 units), M (35-50 units). Food cords can be: P (65-80 units), C (50-65 units), M (35-50 units). Standardized cords can only be of medium hardness (55-70 units).

Use of rubber cords

Rubber cords can be used for various purposes. GOST 6467-79 establishes the following purposes of use:

• sealing various connectors and joints;
• preventing dirt and dust from entering the cavity.
